The
Brunstane Lodge, or Mid-hope as it was originally
called was built in the late 19th century By Mrs Walker
and Mr James Binning who were brother and sister.
Originally from Keppoch Farm in Strathpeffer they
built Mid hope as a boarding house and transported
many of Keppoch Farms interesting arcitechtual features
to the new building, such as the stained glass windows
that can still be seen to this day.
The
carvings that still adorn the internal doors within
the building were done by a Mrs Elizabeth Bodell who
was the daughter of Mrs Walker. A local Painter and
building contractor Mr Ken Macleod bought Mid hope
in the 1920's and turned the boarding house into a
bed and breakfast. He owned the property for 40 plus
years and sold it to the Bain family who moved from
Edinburgh and it was they who changed the name to
the Brunstane Lodge.
Some
extensive alterations were made to the property including
extensions and modernisations. They owned the building
for around ten years before selling it to the Green
family who then ran it for some years before selling
it to Mary-Anne and Alisdair Mackay. In 1999 Chris
Guichot became the Manager and has run it with his
business partner Paul Mackay ever since.
